Can I test a single topic in a project?

Unread post by Anders Hyden »

Hi,

if I have a large project with about 100 topics, can I test the topic, that I just am working with.
It would save some time if the hole project not would compile.

Like a sort of preview.

Yes you can! :)

When you click on the Publish Button, the Publish Help Project pops up.
In the 'include options' menu on the right, select the "Selected Topics" tickbox
And voila!

ps. I didn't know about that for quite some time, as I always used the quick publish options.

Hope this helps

Hi All,

Sorry to resurrect and old topic but it seems the most relevant answer to my search.
Please can someone just confirm that this is the only method to preview a single topic?

Is there no preview button on the UI to allow a quick preview of the topic you are editing.

Many thanks
Craig

Hi Craig,

That is basically the "preview" option. You really need to generate output to be able to see a preview because of the way Help & Manual needs to work to handle multiple output formats. The output format does not and cannot exist while you are working because you are saving in XML. The XML is universal format that does not have any real formatting or layout of its own, and it is rendered in different ways for the different output formats. The rendering process needs to be performed before you can see the output, and this means combining the XML source with templates, stylesheets etc. to produce the final output.
