Images in headers - possible for PDF output?

Unread post by Gary Welch »

Hello!

We're doing a little revamp work on our manual - and are running into a bit of a snag. We've got some "selector" icons that we'd like to appear next to the topic title (in the header) - which we can get to show up just fine in HTML and CHM versions.

The "roadblock" were running into is - when we publish a PDF version, the icons aren't present in that version. We've been doing some digging - but can't seem to find a way to get the icons to show up unless they're in the body (which doesn't quite fit what we're after here).

Is what I'm asking here possible? If so... how would we go about accomplishing it?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Gary,

This isn't possible. When you publish to PDF only the plain text of the topic header or TOC caption is transferred to the PDF (which depends on which variables you use in the PDF template). The formatting is all defined in the template.

You can add icons to the headers in the PDF template, but then you will get the same icon on all topics on the level for which you apply the icon. You do this by inserting an image object in the heading level band in the Topics (topic headers) or TOC (TOC entries) sections of the template in Manual Designer.
