Images with hot spots float rather than scroll in .chm

Unread post by Greg Smith »

In H&M 7 it appears that images with hot spots do not scroll with the text in the .chm viewer. They image appears in the correct place when the page displays initially, then they stay in the same place, floating over the text as the rest of the page scrolls. Is this deliberate, and is there a setting to stop this happening?

Hi Greg,
In H&M 7 it appears that images with hot spots do not scroll with the text in the .chm viewer.
This cannot be reproduced here under any circumstances. Either it has something to do with your project or skin or your computer is possessed by Cthulu. Please mail me a demo project and skin at support AT ec-software.com (replace the AT with @) and I'll check it for you.

I have emailed you a project with one image and a couple of pages that show the effect...
...if my CPU is possessed do you do home exorcism visits?

All we did to generate this was to upgrade to version 7...

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the project. This is caused by using very old templates and/or a skin. The skin and the templates in the project are actually identical and they are both ancient, possibly dating as far back as HM5. To fix it do this:
  1. Delete all the baggage files in the project.
  2. Reset the "Default" HTML Page Temple to the new defaults using the "Reset Defaults" button.
  3. DELETE the "Popup" HTML Page Template template.
  4. Choose one of the new standard skins provided with Help & Manual 7 to publish with.
Then the problem will disappear.
.if my CPU is possessed do you do home exorcism visits?
Patronus anti-Dementor charm executed...

OK, the charm has worked (thank you), and my project is now modern and cleaned of the unsightly printer icon to print the current page that I used to enjoy. Is there a way to get this back (given that I am a C++ programmer, not a HTML and CSS wizard)?

Apart from that, I'm sure that our customers and I will get used to the refreshed appearance.

I chose the first one that looked a bit like what I had before:

CHM Skin, Dark Blue Header, Feature Images.hmskin

This thread is two years out of date. You just need to update your copy of Help+Manual 7 to the current version if you haven't already and then get the current version of the skin from the \Templates\HTML Skins\ folder in the Help+Manual program directory. You can download the update installer here:
