Custom Fonts in Help and Manual

Unread post by Ian Ralls »

Hi

My company uses a custom font for all communications (Proxima Nova), is there a way in which I can 'embed' this font in a generated webhelp file?

Regards and thanks

Hi Ian,

There's a tutorial explaining how to do it that is still valid here:

https://helpman.it-authoring.com/viewto ... =2&t=12983

With some complementary information on W3 Schools here:

https://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_fonts.asp

That being said, this is a practice that is still involves some difficulty. It will slow down your page loads and, worse, the fonts won't display on many company computers where the security settings are anything higher than normal. There web fonts will generally be excluded by default, as a security and bandwidth-saving measure. Many ad blockers will also block web fonts by default, and a huge number of users now browse with ad blockers because much of the web has become pretty much unusable without them. :?

A much easier way to do this is with Google Web Fonts, which is built in to the Premium Pack V3 skins. There you basically just activate the Google Web Fonts option and say which ones you want to use. More information in the Premium Pack documentation here:

Ian, fyi Google's nearest equivalent to Proxima Nova is Muli. I'm not sure either Muli or Proxima Sans would be ideal for body copy at small sizes though. For that you might be better off with a standard font.
