Strange characters appearing

Unread post by linda carr »

For no apparent reason, an open box symbol inserts itself when the Help File is published:

Select the appropriate Payment By for this refund.

This doesn't appear when editing the page. XML:

<text styleclass="Steps" translate="true">Select the appropriate </text><text styleclass="Steps" style="font-weight:bold;" translate="true">Payment By</text><text styleclass="Steps" translate="true"> for this refund. You </text>

Can anyone help?

Hi Linda,

The character is right there in the XML:

Code: Select all

translate="true"> for this refund.
It looks like a spurious character that got entered somehow while you were working. If you delete that the problem will go away. :wink:

Thanks. Would be great if you could search the XML for the box

You could, if you knew what the character was, but you don't know until you find it. The "box" usually isn't really a character at all; it's just something that Windows inserts that means "unknown character in this context". There is a box character that looks like that, but it's almost never really used. Selecting it in the editor won't help because if it's displayed like that the editor can't handle it either, so neither can the search function... :?
