IMPORTANT for German Users: Turn Google Web Fonts OFF!!!

Unread post by Tim Green »

If you are hosting a website in Germany and in German using a V3 or V4 skin from Premium Pack 3 or 4, you need to turn dynamic Google Web Fonts OFF if this setting is on. The problem is, Google's dynamic web fonts system sends the user's IP address to Google. Under a new Munich court decision regarding the GDPR, private and commercial users can issue an "Abmahnung" warning you off and even charging you for putative damages for the infringement of your privacy. (If you don't live in Germany, don't worry what an "Abmahnung" is -- it doesn't affect you. If you do, you already know.)

What you need to do:

Only V3 and V4 Premium Pack 3 and 4 skins with support for Google Web Fonts are affected.

To check in Premium Pack 4, open the skin in Toolbox and select the Skin Options button. If the OPT_WEBFONTS option is on, turn it OFF. Save your skin, republish your WebHelp and REPLACE the old version with the new version on your server. To be sure, delete all the old files before uploading.

To check in Premium Pack 3, look in the "Include Options" box in the Publish screen and make sure the option "Google Web Fonts" is not checked when you publish to WebHelp.
