I have been using the V5 Cool Max Skins but I'm an old git, used to an index and I still want an index to be available. (I'm one of those weirdos who finds them useful and who finds "cool max" a bit off-putting as a label.)
Maybe an Index you have to click to get to. Can one be made optional in a Cool Max skin? I cannot find in the documentation or indeed in a search on this site which skins I should choose from. Please help before the nurse comes to wheel me away!
which skins have index?

Re: which skins have index?
Hi Mike,
That skin doesn't have a keyword index. It is one of its features as the newest skin, not a restriction. The observation is that in the age of Google, the number of users who actually access the keyword index is so infinitesimally small that it really no longer makes any sense to include it. It may please you as the author, as it does me, but it is still redundant if almost nobody is using it. And eliminating it makes a much more streamlined layout possible. It wouldn't be possible to add an index to that skin without a complete redesign, even if I wanted to. As for the skin name: I'm sure you'll survive.
There are plenty of other skin series with keyword indexes in the Premium Pack. Basically all of them except Cool Max and the two Compact Modern series, which were more of an experiment that probably aren't being used all that much.

Re: which skins have index?
Even if I agreed that none of our users ever consulted the index, I use it myself so often, whenever I need to find a topic or anchor to direct people to, that I would never consider dropping it. But this is another old git speaking! I even wrote a little utility that I can use here, whenever I have a topic permalink on my clipboard, to pop up and display all the anchors in the topic and replace the clipboard contents with the one I select.

Re: which skins have index?
Sorry, still a bit confused. Turns out I'm actually using a V5 Modern Flexible Keyboard skin, not a Cool Max one.
Which of these are Compact Modern? Is it V4 Advanced?
Will a V4 Modern Standard have an index? I ask because adapting a skin is quite laborious.

Agreed. Besides, B) search doesn't always work effectively e.g. a two word search. B), I often want to find a topic myself in order to point a user to it.Tim Frost wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:44 am Even if I agreed that none of our users ever consulted the index, I use it myself so often, whenever I need to find a topic or anchor to direct people to, that I would never consider dropping it. Re: which skins have index?
Both those skins have indexes. My guess is that you have just turned the index off. Edit the skin in Toolbox, hit the HTML Options button and make sure that Include Index at the top is set to 1 and not 0.Mike Scott wrote: ↑Tue Jun 18, 2024 9:49 am Sorry, still a bit confused. Sorry, I misquoted. Those two are the V4 Advanced Compact and Advanced Full TOC. But note that they don't have (and can't have) an index, and they also have some restrictions on how you can structure the TOC. See the documentation on them for details.
