Anchors in .chm Contents

Unread post by jep1955b »

I looked but didn't seem to find an answer to this.
We are creating .chm files for help. And have a few topics like this:
Topic1
Anchor1
Anchor2

How do I get that structure to show up in the help contents tab? I seem to only see Topic1.

You need to create a TOC entry with an anchor to achieve this:
  1. Click in the TOC where you want to insert the entry and select Add Topic in the Project tab.
  2. Select the Topic Link option in the Add Topic dialog.
  3. Select the Link to topic in the project button.
  4. Select the topic ID of the topic containing the anchor, then also select the anchor in the field at the bottom of the dialog and click on OK.
However, creating "fake" topics like this with anchors is not generally recommended. It results in confusing navigation in the TOC and can also result in unnecessarily long topics. Unless you have a very specific reason for doing this in exception circumstances only used very sparingly, it is much better practice to create a separate topic for every TOC entry.
