build 7414
ChatGPT Copy Chat Selection to Topic
Several issues.
A No selection, it copied this:
1. Specify the context or Woody’s emotion:
2. Combine sentences for flow:
3. Add sensory detail or internal reflection:
4. Vary sentence structure:
5. Expand with body language or atmosphere:
BUT each of those had bulleted text inside.. so it copied only part and left out most.
B Selected text in chat, if I have selected text in the chat and I select it, it copies nothing, and if there is selected text in the topic, it replaces it with nothing (Deletes it)

Re: ChatGPT Copy Chat Selection to Topic
Hi Chad,
I'm not quite sure I understand what's happening/what you're doing here from your descriptions.
In A: For copying back to the topic you need a selection. Then click on the gear icon and select copy chat selection to topic. Also, that looks as if you have the results of multiple prompts there. I'd really copy each one one at a time, and make sure that everything you want to copy is selected.

I can't reproduce this. How exactly are you trying to do this? If text is selected in the topic it will get replaced by the selection in the chat if you click on the gear icon and select Copy Selection to Topic.Selected text in chat, if I have selected text in the chat and I select it, it copies nothing, and if there is selected text in the topic, it replaces it with nothing (Deletes it)

Re: ChatGPT Copy Chat Selection to Topic
It was one prompt. One response.
It was numbered an inside the numbers were bullet points. It pasted the numbered items but ignored all the bullet points inside.
second issue, select some text inside one of the responses, then try to do the copy function. I would expect it would use the selected text instead of the whole response. It may be that thats not how it work and combined with the first part, its pasting nothing. its like bullet points are invisible to HM.

A screenshot would be helpful. Generally, it will copy everything in the blue highlighted bubble.
That will not work. You need to click on the entire bubble so that it highlights in blue. Selecting within a response will definitely either not work at all or not work correctly. You need to click on the response bubble. If you're trying to select within it that is probably your problem throughout.select some text inside one of the responses

In one case, but not the other. I didnt send a screenshot as it had info I didnt want to redistribute.
Id like to suggest that we be able to select within the bubble as well to copy only SOME of the output back over...

Re: ChatGPT Copy Chat Selection to Topic
That will definitely not be possible, because of the way the ChatGPT implementation works here. Also remember that at least for the time being, this is a stateless implementation. That means that the LLM has no idea about your preceding prompts. For that to be possible, and this is how it works in the web version, it has to be sent your entire preceding conversation along with each individual prompt. That costs a LOT of tokens and can quickly get expensive, which is why kept it stateless in the initial implementation.Chad Hower wrote: Mon Sep 22, 2025 3:21 pm Id like to suggest that we be able to select within the bubble as well to copy only SOME of the output back over...
