FloatingLicenseManager

Unread post by Christof Schardt »

Am I the only one who misses a brief manual how the FloatingLicenseManager works und how to use it?
I started it, put in my HM license, the tried to add my TA license, but he did not accept this.
I only found a readme, telling how to invoke the tool, but it does not tell me what is achieved by the tool, how it activates or deactivates the licence and so on.
Thanks for help.

IMPORTANT: The floating license manager should only be available to admins in your organization. 8)

It is really very straightforward. There is no installation, just unpack and run it. Note that to use it, you must activate at least one license in Help+Manual or Help+Manual Translation Assistant. Only then can you activate it with the activated key. Once you have done this you can also use the tool to add new licenses to the pool. In addition to seeing who is using the licenses you can also release licenses that are in use, subject to the following restrictions:

A normally used floating license can only be released by the administrator after two hours have passed since the user started Help+Manual.
A floating license that has been pinned for offline use can only be released by the administrator after eight days have passed since the license was pinned. However, you can see who is using it so you can contact them to unpin it before that... ;-)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

License display:
If you do not see all your licenses in the Manager, this means that your licenses were not all activated together in Help+Manual before the first use. Then a new license pool is created on our server when each user enters the key for the first time, each with only 1 license in it. If this has happened, please contact sales support at sales AT ec-software.com with the request to combine the licenses on the server into one pool.

Maintenance extensions:
Please note that maintenance extensions cannot currently be entered with the manager. They must still be entered in an activated copy of Help+Manual. Once the extension codes have been entered, they can be discarded, because they are then linked to your license pool on our license server. Help+Manual activations must still be done with the original license keys, which are updated automatically on the server when you extend the maintenance.
