Index entry in previous Webhelp-Skin won't open on select+Enter/Spacebar keys

Unread post by sereshk146 »

Hello There,

I am still working with a skin from H+M Version 8 or 9, which works for us very well in some respects.

Since I am no web designer I may miss out on basics that would be natural to one:
When I have the output generated, things look quite well already. Managed to add some enhancements in regard to colours and a dark mode toggle.

Yet, even with a previous, basic version of the skin when selecting entries in the Index pane using the Tab key – on pressing Entry or Spacebar they won't open. None of them.
On the other hand, building from that same project, project definitions only, no skin at all, this works (except that entries won't have any background colour on selection state...).

Any way you could point me to some solution where and what to do to that Webhelp-Skin?

Please let me know what more information you might need.

Thanks in advance and kind regards
Nina

Hi Nina,

Which skin specifically are you using? The standard Help+Manual skins don't actually support the spacebar for opening entries but you should be able to navigate in the keyword index with TAB and SHIFT+TAB and select entries with ENTER if you have caret browsing switched on (press F7 in your browser to toggle it on and off). However, the SPACEBAR isn't supported and in most cases it will just scroll.

If you've edited the skin code in some way that might the cause, however.
