UI annoyances

Unread post by Marek Jedlinski »

H&M Standard 5.6.0, build 1340 on Win 7 32-bit

(Perhaps this should be posted under Wish list, but these are mostly easy-to-fix annoyances.)

1.
Edit fields in some dialog boxes do not have keyboard accelerators (&). This seems rather random. For example, in the "Insert Hyperlink" dialog box, "Internet Link": tab, some fields have accelerators, others do not (Address, Test, Target window). This gives the feel of an unfinished product, which is surprising given the reputation of H&M. But most of all, it reduces usability. What possible reason could there be for not having an accelerator for the "Address" field, for example?

2.
- Many edit boxes (e.g. in the "Insert hyperlink" dialog) do not have standard context menus with editing commands. Some of them are TnT controls, others are regular TEdits. These controls have default context menus automatically, so H&M authors had to put some effort into disabling them. Why disable a very useful piece of standard functionality? (For example: when I copy an URL from the browser's address bar, I'm already holding the mouse, so it's faster to paste the URL in the Address field using the mouse as well. In these edit boxes, the mouse won't work.)

3.
- The "Paragraph" dialog box used a non-standard, tiny font, which is quite hard to read. Why not use Windows standard font or Delphi's default (as in "Program Options" or "Insert Hyperlink" dialog boxes)? The font is really too small to be readable if your eyesight isn't perfect. Please consider that users configure the theme fonts in Windows to ensure they can read comfortably, and there really is no upside to overriding these settings.
