Necessary to renew licenses?

Hi,
Our company owns a number of Help & Manual 8 licenses. When my colleague tried to install version 8.4.4 she got the following error messages. Do we have to update the license or can we continue using it without maintenance/support?

The license is perpetual, so you can go on using it for as long as you like if you don't feel the need to update. You only need to extend the maintenance if you want to update to a more recent version.

Note that maintenance extensions always start on the date on which the last maintenance expired. 8)
