The dots remain on the previous line in PDF

Unread post by Svetlana Akulova »

Hello! I need your opinion or advice.
There is a problem with publishing some text elements in PDF format. For example, when writing a path inside a text that starts with "..\" sometimes it turns out that the dots break away from the rest of the path and remain on the previous line.
Is there a way not to separate the dots and not add spaces to the path text?

Hi Svetlana,

Instead of ordinary dots, try using ALT+0149 (on numberpad) instead:

••\path\path

Try a smaller font for the dots? Or a space between them?

Interesting. I tried not to reduce the size, but to make the points "subscript". It looks better. The only catch left is that if the user copies the path from the PDF while reading, then the dots before the slash will be markers. Like this: ••\Path_Path\Path_PathPath_PathPathPath\

Hi Svetlana,

I'm going to check into this. Leading dots in a relative path reference is probably an edge case that is being incorrectly identified as the end of a sentence, and thus it is allowing a break there. It may also be being made worse by the fact that you are using justified text. Above and beyond the error, I would never put a path reference in the body of a paragraph. I would always put it in a paragraph of its own. We'll get back to you on this though.

Update: This is a known issue. There are a couple of situations where the editor engine breaks like this after punctuation marks that it identifies in different ways than you might expect. In this case it's identifying the dot(s) as the end of a sentence. However, since it's in the core editor engine it's not an issue that can be addressed quickly as other things can. I would recommend putting path references like this in their own paragraph. :?
