Hi all,
With H&M 9.7.2 Build 6920 on Windows 11, Word export of several HMXPs took 3 times longer than the same HMXPs with H&M 9.7.2 Build 6920 on Windows 10. We tested mutiple HMXPs, and compared 2 Win 10 machines and 2 Win 11 machines and also reinstalled H&M 9.7.2.
The good news is: The issue does NOT occur with the H&M 10 Preview on Windows 11.
The bad news is: I cannot use the preview in production and are forced to use Windows 11 on our machines due to end of life of Windows 10.
Is there any chance to get a fix for this or workaround?
Thanks
Markus

Re: Very slow Word export with H&M 9.7.2 Build 6920 on Windows 11
That's puzzling. It never occurred to us that Help+Manual 9 would be significantly slower on a Windows 11 machine, than Windows 10.
Normally, I would have blamed external issues like different hardware, different data location, different network perhaps.
But if the HM10 preview is fast again whereas HM9 on the very same Windows 11 machine is significantly slower, those external factors cannot really be held responsible.
The entire codebase of Help+Manual 10 has been ported to a newer and quite recent Delphi version. And while there is no real change in the DOCX export, there is a change in the ZIP functionality. With the rebuild of version 10 we gave up on one pretty old ZIP component and replaced that with a tried-and-tested modern component, that ships with Delphi and has been tested for quite some time with HelpXplain, SnipSVG and the eWriter Viewer. The unit is fast and rock solid.
So, I wonder, if it is the old ZIP component that is thwarted by Windows 11. Could you please run a test with HM9 and HM10 side-by-side on Windows 11, if there is a significant difference in ePUB export as well? ePUB and DOCX are both zip formats and both were and are created by the same zip unit.

I exported the same HMXP file to ePUB format using both H&M9 and H&M10.
There were no significant differences in export time.

Okay, so it's not the zip component. Still puzzled...
But now that Help+Manual 10 is officially released, would it be a feasible solution to switch to version 10?

Oh, great. Sure, if it is officially realeased, we can switch to version 10.
Thanks. No further investigation needed from my side. We of course stick to the latest version.
