How to Write with Style

Unread post by Tim Green »

A wonderful short essay on the essential principles of good writing by Kurt Vonnegut, the Mark Twain of the 20th century:

He pretty much says it all and it can be applied to any kind of writing, including technical writing. The only more concise guide to good writing I know is this anonymous classic:
  • Begin at the beginning, continue until you reach the end, then stop.

That would be an excellent principle (wish I'd thought of it) if only the terms could be clearly defined e.g. when is "the end " reached, how do we get there and when do I get paid? :-)
