Help+Manual v10 - Sneak Preview

Unread post by Alexander Halser »

Well, it's no secret anymore. We have been working on Help+Manual 10 for quite a while now and we are close to a Release Candidate.

Are you in for a quick and painless beta test?

I hear you :D Nobody wants to do beta testing, why would they?

So no, it's not a beta test, it's a release candidate test. All technical functionality is supposed to work as advertised. We are particularly interested in feedback about optical glitches. Optical glitches with high-resolution monitors, especially in combination with multi-monitor setups. And, unlikely but still possible, optical glitches with Dark Mode.

What's new in version 10?

Help+Manual 10 has a redesigned user interface. If you have a multi-monitor setup with different resolutions, you might have noticed a slightly blurry user interface on secondary monitors with previous versions. That's done with, version 10 is fully dpi-aware and shows crisp icons and sharp texts on any monitor. This feature, in combination with support for a Dark Mode option, turned out to become the biggest rewrite since version 5. This is why we rely on you reporting optical glitches on high-resolution monitors and, perhaps, issues in combination with Dark Mode.

But this is not all, of course. There's plenty of new stuff in version 10, plus a lot of minor details and customer requests we took care about. Take a look at the teaser screenshot below. Is there anything in the list that triggers your interest? Great! :D

Download

You can download a sneak preview of Help+Manual 10 from the link below. V10 installs into a different folder than older versions, so you can safely use v9 and v10 side-by-side.

We love to hear from you! 8)

By the way, this screenshot mockup was (of course) created with SnipSVG 2.0. That's the default image editor in Help+Manual 10 and is included in the setup.

Downloaded....

Are the XMLs compatible, e.g. if project changed with V10 will it still be (correctly ) editable with V9?

Please activate it with your license key for Help+Manual 9 (needs to have active maintenance).

The XML is fully compatible, though we've updated the XML version. HM9 will issue a warning when you re-open a project edited with v10. But except for one new feature in link lists, the XML is fully compatible.
