problems with copy and paste images

Unread post by dlazenby »

I recently purchased the Help+Manual Pro version.
I am trying to copy and paste images (unsuccessfully).
I have an image on my clipboard that I captured with TechSmith's SnagIt. Typically, if I want to paste it into something (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, email, etc.) I just go to the insertion site of the "recipient" document (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, email, etc.) and do the typical Control + V. (I am using Windows 11 Pro, most current version).
However, In Help+Manual, when I try to do that, it opens the file explorer, wanting me to choose a file that is already stored/named. I typically do not store the images that I might be capturing.
The same thing occurs if I right mouse click, and choose the paste options
Additionally, specifically, I have a topic "page" open.
Additionally, there are no copyright issues with the image.
Strangely enough when I do the standard copy/paste routine with text in that same topic "page" (Control + C -> Control + V), it works just fine.
I can't seem to find anything in the configuration options that would apply.
Additionally, in the Program Options, under Shortcuts, the "Paste from clipboard" is set up as (Ctrl + V).
Please advise.

The dialog box is labelled "Open" but in fact it is inviting you to save the clipboard image as a file in your project.
H+M Save graphic from clipboard.png

This is because H+M manages all your images as individual files on disc, rather than embedding the image data within the document like Word and PowerPoint do. This is explained in the "Pasting graphics from the Windows clipboard" section of the H+M Documentation. The topic says you have to take extra steps if there are transparent areas in your SnagIt screenshot, but I think this is out of date: the current v 2026.0.0 version of SnagIt puts a png on the clipboard and H+M has no problem with it.

You might like to check out H+M's own screen capture tool SnipSVG as an alternative to SnagIt for some purposes. You can find it under Image in H+M's Write menu, or as a stand-alone download (free of charge).

Hi Doug,

In addition to Simon's excellent response, please also see the email I sent you this morning on the same question you sent to support. This has been delayed a little because your emails have been held up on our server, which has been rejecting them as "unverified". One possible cause for this might be that you could be using a VPN, which often causes email messages to be seen as unverified. It's also always better to write to us directly at support AT ec-software.com (replace the AT with @) instead of using the web form, which is only for users who don't know how to reach us directly yet. 8)
Regards,
Tim (EC Software Documentation & User Support)
